Cool Motive, Still Kidnapping

If you’ve read An Ambitious Hope, you might have noticed that Alarick didn’t get away with kidnapping Ruby.

She forgave him eventually, yes. He had what he thought was a good reason, yes. But he didn’t get away with it. There were actual consequences that didn’t just include his future sister-in-law hating his guts.

I’ve read books where the heroines were kidnapped by men who thought they had a good reason or felt they had no other choice, and it always bothered me that they never truly answered for their actions. If we want a villain to get justice for kidnapping someone and scarring them emotionally, why should we let the good guy off the hook?

What do you think?
